During an interview with herMateralistscostarPedro PascalforEllePublished on Wednesday, May 14, the actress shared that when she was rejected from The Juilliard School and decided against attending college, her parents chose to withdraw their financial support.

I began auditions. I believe I was 19 at the time.The Social Network, and then little jobs and stuff after that," Johnson, 35, told Pascal, 50, who followed up by asking if it was "scary" for Johnson to navigate things post-high school.

TheMadame WebThe star confessed that she faced financial difficulties, revealing, "I experienced several instances where I would visit the store but lacked sufficient funds in my bank account or had trouble paying rent."

"I’d have to ask my parents for help – I’m very grateful that I had parents that could help me and did help me," Johnson continued. "But it certainly was not fun. The auditioning process, as you know, is the f------ worst."

Despite having famous parents — and also being the granddaughter of Tippi Hedren and the stepdaughter of Antonio Banderas — Johnson has previously noted that she was "discouraged" in pursuing her acting dreams.

Speaking withW MagazineIn 2022, Johnson stated, "Look at how well that worked out? However, I got it. They aimed for me to experience as normal a childhood as possible."

When she caught the acting bug,Fifty Shades of GreyThe star mentioned something quite rudimentary, akin to early stages of development.

"Nothing old. Zero old," Johnson said, adding, "I couldn't wait because I grew up on set. My parents were always working with amazing artists, and I just loved it... I wanted to be a part of it so badly."
